Danny Sikkens


Aim High Academy of Martial Arts is the realization of Founder Dan Sikkens’ dream. A 5th degree black belt under Master Tom Callos’ direction, Dan used his teaching and motivational skills and applied them towards creating a program that inspires others to study Martial Arts and help others while doing it.


Doug Ownby

Executive Director

Doug has been with Aim High since 2011 and took over as Aim High PDX’s Executive Director in 2019. Doug began studying Martial Arts in 2000 and is a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, as well as a 3rd Degree in MMA. Outside of Martial Arts, Doug enjoys spending time with his daughters.


John Wright

Floor Manager / Fusion Program Manager

John Wright is a 4th degree Black Belt and has been with Aim High since 2006. He currently oversees all of the Martial Arts programs. John started his training in Martial Arts in 1997 because he wanted to be like Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee. John teaches with intensity and a contagious energy that allows him to teach very technical classes in a fun, action-packed way. He also studied Law Enforcement before returning to his true passion, Martial Arts. Outside of Aim High, John enjoys cooking, being outdoors, and participating in extreme sports. 


Julie Yokoshima

Front End Manager

Julie joined Aim High during the summer of 2018 and is currently the Front End Manager. Julie graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Kinesiology and holds National Training Certifications including ACE Youth Fitness Specialist, AFAA-CPT, NASM-CPT, NASM-CES, NCSF-CPT, Schwinn Indoor Cycling MPower, and TRX-GXTC. Before moving to Oregon in the Fall of 2017 Julie was the General Manager at Overtime Fitness in Mountain View since 2008. In her free time, Julie enjoys being physically active with her family and anything that involves being outdoors.


Hunter prins

Marketing & Events Manager / Ink Department Manager

Hunter joined Aim High as the Marketing & Events Manager in August 2017. In 2019, he also took on the position of Ink Department Manager. Hunter graduated from the University of Oregon in 2017 with a degree in Sports Business and Finance. In his spare time, Hunter loves to be outdoors and playing sports with his friends! Fun fact: Hunter and his younger brother were two of Aim High’s first students back in 2004!


Maygan Crawley

Executive Assistant

Maygan joined Aim High during summer of 2018 as a Customer Service Lead in the Martial Arts Academy and was promoted to Executive Assistant to the Executive Director in the spring of 2019. Maygan attended Pacific University and earned her degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice with the intention of working with disadvantaged youth. In her time at Pacific, she volunteered with the Washington County District Attorney’s office and continues volunteer with the Juvenile Department as a youth mentor. In her free time, Maygan enjoys reading crime novels, enjoying the outdoors, and hanging out with her friends.




Events Coordinator

Selina joined the Aim High team as our Events Coordinator in the Summer of 2018. Selina plans all of Aim High’s Events: birthday parties, Parent’s Night Outs (PNO), and camps. Selina enjoys working at Aim High because of the diverse work environment and likes the new challenges each day presents with all the different things that go on at Aim High! In her spare time, Selina enjoys spending time outdoors with her dog, Farrah, and exploring new food spots around Portland


Jessie Collier

Customer Service Lead

Jessie is currently studying Graphic Design and Interactive Media at Chemeketa Community College in Salem. She hopes to finish up her degree and join a company as a Layout Designer. In her free time, she enjoys riding her long board, playing video games, and finding new places to eat. She has volunteered as a Summer Camp Director for her church where she leads plays, and mission trips out of the state. A passion of hers is attending a mission trip to Mexico, where every year her church builds a house for a family. Since she was young, she always enjoyed the great outdoors and loves to hike, camp, or go mudding when the sun is out. A fun fact about her is that she won a State Championship Poetry Writing Contest in high school and has owned over 100 pets at one time


Randal Reeves

Warrior Program Manager

Teacher Randal has been studying Martial Arts since 1993 and teaching for the past twenty years. He joined Aim High back in 2013 and shortly after he earned his second degree Black Belt. Randal specializes in using high-energy Martial Arts classes to motivate and teach kids from 3-7 years old on the importance of concepts such as: positive attitudes, respect for themselves and others, self-confidence, and self-discipline.


Sam Gregg

Fusion/Kickboxing Instructor

Teacher Sam began studying Martial Arts in 2003 and is a 3rd degree Black Belt. He joined Aim High in 2006. Sparring and breaking boards are Sam's favorite parts of Martial Arts because they allow him to apply the techniques he’s learned and experiment with real-world applications. In his free time, Sam enjoys being outdoors, working on cars, and spending time with his daughters.


Maria Thomas  

Tang Soo Do Program Manager

Teacher Maria began studying Tang Soo Do in 1999 and has been with Aim High since 2013. Maria currently holds a 3rd degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do. Maria has expansive weapons training and her favorites are the sword and bo staff. Maria loves working at Aim High because: "It's fun to work with a group of such talented, elite martial artists." In her spare time, Maria enjoys exploring visual arts, working as a stunt woman, and interpretive dance


logan verzosa  

Fusion Instructor

Teacher Logan is a 4th degree Black Belt with a very impressive background in competitive Martial Arts. He is a two time world champion through the North American Sport Karate Association and through the National Blackbelt League, three time world champion through the Sport Karate International League and has placed within the top three of 20+ other world championships. In addition to instructing Fusion classes, Logan also specializes in working with our Impact students who are severely impacted by Autism. He takes them through different exercises to keep them active and try and engage different muscles that they would not regularly use


Tracy mora

Warriors Program Instructor

Teacher Tracy earned her 1st degree Black Belt at Aim High in 2018 and is currently working towards her 2nd degree. She joined Aim High’s staff team in 2018 as A Warrior Program Instructor.


James Morrison

Tae Kwon Do Instructor

Teacher James joined Aim High in the Summer of 2019 as a Tae Kwon Do instructor. James has been studying Martial Arts for over fifteen years and has eight years of teaching experience. He started in Traditional Tae Kwon Do and earned his 1st Degree Black Belt before switching to Olympic Tae Kwon Do where he earned his 2nd Degree Black Belt. He was previously working as a Certified Personal Trainer before he decided to return to his true passion, Martial Arts!


Georgia Anderson

Intro Instructor / Front Desk Assistant / Events

Teacher Georgia started studying Martial Arts at Aim High at the age of nine because she wanted to be a ninja. She tested for her 1st degree Black Belt in 2015 and is currently working towards her 2nd degree. She is currently a High School student while also working on her AA in Physics at PCC. Teacher Georgia does all of Aim High’s intro lessons and also works at the front desk and for Events! In her free time she likes to kayak, go to the gym, take classes, and binge Netflix. Fun fact: she is hyper-mobile in almost all of her joints, making her hyper-flexible.
