UK Journal #25
9:01 a.m. ( Portland Time )
The morning was pretty busy mostly because I had to finish
packing and take a shower. I knew I had a long three flights ahead of me and being clean ( I feel ) will help make the journey a little more comfortable. At the moment I just said goodbye to my mom and dad here at the Portland Airport, so currently I’m waiting at my gate, the first step to my long and amazing journey. I’ve got an hour or so before I board the plane and with all my luggage and tickets I’m ready to roll…
11:00 a.m. ( Portland time )
I’m sitting on the plane right now and it’s currently in
the air, my best guess is that we’re just above Idaho… at this very moment in time I realize that there’s no turning back from this independent journey. To me I feel like I’m sky diving and I just jumped out of the plane… definitely no turning back.
I had forgotten to eat something before I got on the plane
and therefore I was so hungry. On this four hour flight from Portland à Chicago they didn’t hand out any free food, but they were selling some. So with the cash I had I decided to buy a package of food, but when I asked if they took cash they refused and said they only took credit card. So I just decided to hold tight for the other three hours until a wonderful flight attendant just gave me a package of food for free. I told her she didn’t have to and that she could take it back, but she refused to do so. I was blown away by her act of kindness. It really made a great start to my morning and it was really moving to me how a small and simple act of kindness can really impact someone. I decided I wanted to do the same to my wonderful hosts Mieke and Louise throughout my stay with them.
5:10 p.m. ( Chicago Time )
So I just landed in Chicago and have already made my way
through crowds of people ( the O’Hare Airport is massive ) and along the way I walked through a really cool tunnel filled with colorful lights and music. I totally got some of it on camera and plan to incorporate it in the final edited video. I also gave myself the chance to buy some food so that I don’t have to worry about eating on my next flight.
