Blog Title: 11/9 - Donald Trump as president...

Blog Entry: Donald Trump won?! According to the popular vote, Hillary won, but since popular vote has no effect on anything, and only the electoral vote matters, Donald Trump won. Both the Senate and the House of Representatives voted for him. My question is: who in their right minds would vote for a person like that? He is not a figure that demands respect, he is a racist, and he has no political experience whatsoever. He is in no way fit to be president. He knows nothing outside of business, which he is not actually good at, going bankrupt multiple times. However, since he won, we will just have to live with him as president for the next four years.

Blog Title: 11/7 My sister...

Blog Entry: My sister is one of the people that really annoy me. I am easily annoyed and I usually hide it at school but at home, when my sister is doing it I can not hold it in. When me and her were helping my mom by raking the yard, I did all the raking while my sister stood there complaining about how she got the smaller rake. What annoyed me most about that situation, is that I used the same rake when I was younger than her to help my dad when he was raking the yard. It got so bad that my mom had to come and take my sister inside. However, during that, she cried and whined about wanting to rake the yard and how I was not letting her by using the big rake. This is only an example of what she does.

Blog Title: 11/8 Election Day...

Blog Entry: So it is election day, and according to my dad, Trump is winning. What I don’t understand is why people would vote for a man who calls women ‘pigs’ and ‘nasty.’ He proposing banning muslims, even though that violates the first and ninth amendment of the Bill of Rights. While Hillary may have had an ‘email scandal,’ she is the better choice for presidency. Donald Trump believes that global warming is a myth created by the Chinese. There is true evidence to support that climate change is a real thing. He wants to break off with NATO, so they do all the work, even though that may make a huge difference in the nation's economy. All in all, I believe that Donald Trump is not fit to be president.

Blog Title: 11/6 Sleep

Blog Entry: Over the last few days, I feel like I am becoming more and more tired. This is probably being caused by the lack of sleep I am getting. In fact, as I am writing this, I feel incredibly tired. My lack of sleep is probably caused by the fact that I have tons of homework. I have about half an hour to an hour of work in math, and hour to three hours in science and an hour of humanities. If feel really surprised when I hear people saying that they finish their homework in less than an hour when I spend at least two and a half hours on it. But what surprised me most was that these people are still getting A’s in every subject. While I am getting A’s in all my subjects, it surprises me how much time people spend on these things.

Blog Title: 11/5 Writing a story in school

Blog Entry: In my humanities class, which is social studies and language arts crammed together, we are writing a short story. The problem is we have to write 80-120 pages. I don’t know how other people are doing, but it has been a week and I have only written about seven pages. I have a month. In that time, the most amount of pages I could do is about thirty. While my teacher says she won’t mark anyone down for not having enough pages, I have seen teachers give kids who don’t write enough lower scores. I am feeling very stressed out by the fact that I won’t meet the necessary requirement.

Blog Title: 11/6 Math Class Status Update

Blog Entry: In a previous blog entry, I mentioned that my math teacher was barely teaching me and the rest of my class anything. So far, he has improved, but only slightly. He sometimes does not even read the material he teaches before teaching it. When someone asks a question about a postulate or a theorem, he has to go back and look in the textbook the review the content that he just taught. Otherwise, he is improving in the teaching sense and teaching us more than usual. Also because of this, the grades that I get on tests increased slightly, because I know more about the topic that he is testing us on.

Blog Title: 11/5 Bottle Flipping?

Blog Entry: At my school, the most popular thing that the kids do is flip water bottles. I really don’t understand why they do it. They are always taking water bottles into class and getting in trouble for flipping them. In PE, there is always a group of kids who take their water bottles and start flipping them on basketball hoops, clocks, and anything they can find to do ‘trick shots.’ Online, if I go on youtube, at least half of the things on the home screen are water bottle flipping videos or tutorials. It just does not make sense to me why people flip water bottles.

Blog Title: 11/4 Post-Guitar Rehersal

Blog Entry: So... I had a guitar rehearsal last week on Saturday. While me and my dad have been practicing this song for at least a month, the music was not synchronized. It started out at about 80% speed then through the song, the speed increased to at least 100%. What really annoys me about how I played, is that me and the other rhythm guitar were so out of sync in the start that it sounded like an echo. First he played, then I played. So far, this was the worst rehearsal I had ever done. I hope we can get the music down before our actual concert on Saturday.

FS -- Michael Fisher -- This is our time to go high

Hello all,

There’s a lot of fear, a lot of anger, and a lot of frustration boiling in our nation and our community lately. But rather than give in to these dark emotions, I think we as martial artists are called to exhibit positivity and leadership. Today is our black belt test – and there’s no better time than now to reach deep inside for the resolve to go beyond what the ordinary world expects of us.

Good luck today, and make this the best experience of your life so far!

FS -- Affirmation -- Hailey

My affirmation is “You only fail when you stop trying” This reminds me that unless I stop trying I can't fail. It's important to always do your best and no matter what the outcome will be great. This is a good reminder for me this Saturday that I do my best and give 110% and no matter what happens, I will be happy with how I did.

FS -- Hailey Machan -- Last competition

Last week was my my last marching band competition as of this year. The championships were amazing and I couldn't have asked for a better year. Even though it was pouring rain we still did our best and made it to the finals. In the finals we placed overall 10th place out of 23 bands. I had an amazing time this year and I'm excited about the next four years. -- Hailey

Blog Title: Confession and Resolution

Blog Entry: I have a confession to make. Throughout this test, I have not been the best at keeping track of and sending in blog entries. I believe that I need more blogs. To make up for this, I resolve to send in 1-2 new blog entries every week for the next 2 months. I will hold myself responsible for keeping track of this, and will ask my parents to help me in case I do forget, though I do realize that it is not their problem. I will make a new notification to help remind me to blog.

Blog Title: V.I.O

Blog Entry: We have an owl.

Technically, he's not our owl, but he lives in a corner of our patio. We call him Vio (Very Important Owl). He seems to like it at our house. He comes every morning, sleeps throughout the day, uses the facilities on one of our patio lights, and then swoops silently away to hunt for his next victim...cough, cough, I mean, next guest to his grand suite apartment complex. Sometimes he disappears for a day or two on a prolonged hunting trip... maybe looking for a mouse king or rat celebrity!

We take care of him... sort of. We make sure neighbors don't wake him by stomping up the patio stairs and gasping in amazement, and we never clean up his potty and pellets (when his own scent goes away, he gets agitated). At one point, a couple of blue jays were bullying him, so we would hide behind the door and as soon as we hear the blue jays jeering at him, we leap out from behind the door, yelling like maniacs and waving our Nerf guns at them until they go away. Now you can't really call this environmentally friendly, but... jeez, those blue jays were mean.

The blue jays never came back.

Perhaps Vio used to live in the woods that made up the dead end of our street, but when the construction companies turned one nature-destroying eye on it...

Now the construction companies have cut down all the trees, paved a new road, and totally destroyed Vio's habitat and probably killed dozens and dozens of poor little animals and insects who were peacefully keeping the ecosystem in balance. Luckily, Vio managed to survive and needed a new home, and so came to our house.

I am very happy to say that I am taking care of the environment and nature and making the life of an owl a little brighter.

Blog Title: Little Buddies

Blog Entry: I moved schools this, year, and so I do not get to do this anymore, but in my old school, we had an activity called Little Buddies. If you were in third grade, your little buddy was in kindergarten, in fourth grade, your buddy was in first grade, and so on and so forth. This activity consists of the older class visiting the younger ones and doing activities with each other. I am sure this was a good learning experience for the youngsters to see how they should behave and what is expected out of them in the future. This gives them a head start on becoming better people.

Because of Martial Arts, I showed my buddies what proper manners are like and how to have legible writing without making them feel like I am criticising everything they do. (believe me, I saw some guy’s little buddy nearly drown in tears when her big buddy told her she was holding her pencil wrong).

Blog Title: Bird Rescue

Blog Entry: We were peacefully minding our own business - Athmay hitting me with a stick, kicking a heavy ball at me, tackling me at random, et cetera… “It’s black belt practice!” He insisted when I told him to stop and tackled me again - when something went THUNK! on the window. I wrestled away Athmay’s stick and turned just in time to see a fluttering brownish green object fall to the ground.

We ran outside and retrieved the small brown-green bird that had hit the window. We brought it inside and Athmay held it while I rushed to find a box to put it in. I found a box and stuffed it with clothes so it would be soft. Then I took a small bowl, filled it with bird feed, and put that inside too.

But when we tried to put the small brown-green bird in the box, he stubbornly clung to Athmay’s hand! We then realized that one of the bird’s toes was bent backwards and one of his wings were twisted. After several tense minutes trying to put the bird in the box, we gave up and let it sit on Athmay’s hand.

Then suddenly, the bird flew off and started flying haphazardly around the room! Thinking it would hurt itself, we opened the window, hoping it would fly out. It flew around a bit, pooped on the table, and flew onto a tree on our backyard.

A few minutes later, it flew off the tree, crashed into our neighbor’s bird feeder, and flew off. I hope he is okay now.

For some reason, this happens a lot. Birds hitting our window. It has happened so many times and we do not know why.

Blog Title: Summer Camps

Blog Entry: My mom runs a company which offers comedy acting summer camps for kids. It also volunteers Comedy Reading for seniors.

The last Blog I wrote was about senior reading. This one is about camps. My mom runs all sorts of camps, but her biggest one is summer camps when school kids don't have school.

Basically she takes the kids for the week and depending on the theme of the week, we do activities. For example, the Treasure Hunt week. She would print maps and put clues on them to where the next clue was, and at the end find a prize.

The Science week we would do science experiments. All the kids who go there love it. Athmay and I help out our mom in rounding up the kids in the morning for the bike rides, helping the younger kids who need help, do errands for her, and that sort of stuff.

Camps are fun and a great way to help out, volunteer, and mentor the others who need mentoring.

Blog Title: Senior reading

Blog Entry: Senior reading is where I and Athmay pick out a few funny book, go to a senior center, and read it in a dramatized fashion. Many times we train other kids on comedy reading and take them along so that they can feel proud of their contributions. We try to hold these sessions once a month.

It makes the seniors laugh and work their brains a little because we have riddles and jokes which they try to guess. Athmay is the Riddler and I always do the last and funniest reading.

It makes me happy to see others happy, and with those seniors who can't really go to the library to get books to read, our reading time is the next best way to discover the world of books, with a little fun, too.

Blog Title: Stretching

Blog Entry: In class, master Doug told us about the importance of stretching. He said because he did not stretch at his Black Belt Test, he tore his hip flexor and had to have Dr. Z work on him between everything.

I myself know the importance of stretching. Yesterday morning we went on an 8-mile run. Because I did not stretch, I hurt the pads of my feet, the top of my left foot, my right glute, and this morning when I woke up, I could barely walk.

Throughout the whole day, moving around was agony. Even now while I sit and type my calves and hamstrings are aching.

When I was five, I arrived late at basketball practice and because I did not get to stretch, I sprained my ankle. I had to go to the hospital and didn’t sleep well that night.

Another time I was at recess and almost sprained my knee trying to kick a soccer ball.

I went to tennis once and because I did not stretch very well, I accidentally stepped on a ball and twisted my foot.

All in all, through personal experiences, I know very well the importance of stretching.
