Blog Entry: We have an owl.
Technically, he's not our owl, but he lives in a corner of our patio. We
call him Vio (Very Important Owl). He seems to like it at our house. He
comes every morning, sleeps throughout the day, uses the facilities on one
of our patio lights, and then swoops silently away to hunt for his next
victim...cough, cough, I mean, next guest to his grand suite apartment
complex. Sometimes he disappears for a day or two on a prolonged hunting
trip... maybe looking for a mouse king or rat celebrity!
We take care of him... sort of. We make sure neighbors don't wake him by
stomping up the patio stairs and gasping in amazement, and we never clean
up his potty and pellets (when his own scent goes away, he gets agitated).
At one point, a couple of blue jays were bullying him, so we would hide
behind the door and as soon as we hear the blue jays jeering at him, we
leap out from behind the door, yelling like maniacs and waving our Nerf
guns at them until they go away. Now you can't really call this
environmentally friendly, but... jeez, those blue jays were mean.
The blue jays never came back.
Perhaps Vio used to live in the woods that made up the dead end of our
street, but when the construction companies turned one nature-destroying
eye on it...
Now the construction companies have cut down all the trees, paved a new
road, and totally destroyed Vio's habitat and probably killed dozens and
dozens of poor little animals and insects who were peacefully keeping the
ecosystem in balance. Luckily, Vio managed to survive and needed a new
home, and so came to our house.
I am very happy to say that I am taking care of the environment and nature
and making the life of an owl a little brighter.
